At the Tucson Great Chiefs Regional our redoubtable and intrepid team of Estela Schotz, Kathy Schenk, Linda Mitchell and David Ochiai placed first in a field of 45 teams to take the Swiss Team title. Their 84 victory points was plenty for first place and just shy of 30 gold points in a field with some of the west coast's best players. What a win! Congratulations guys.

November 14, 2008 - Forty-six tables competed in the Unit Wide Championship among three participating clubs. AZ BridgeWorks players took eight of the fourteen overall masterpoint awards. Congratulations to Ceci Markovits and Loren Lange for their third place in the overalls. Check out the OVERALLS.

Clark has been spending entirely too much time on his 'doodles.' John has a Toy Drive for the kids every year. Joy is donating one of Clark's doodles to be raffled to help fund the toy drive. Beginning Monday, November 10, John will be selling raffle tickets for $1.00 each, 6 for $5.00 or 13 for $10.00. The winning ticket will be drawn at our Holiday Party on December 17. All proceeds from the raffle will go to charity. Watch this page for a picture of the doodle. Doodle being raffled.

Our second annual Jackpot Game series has just ended (check the August 6 entry below for details). Ken Barbour and Joyce Tamsen took the field with seven accrued points over the eight week contest. Third place had five players tied. Phebe Packer, Dave Certa, Frank Leonard,
Bill Berry and John Vaneerden, each won a share of the third place loot.

October 12, 2008 - Our Tuesday evening game will begin at 6:30p starting November 4. Those players still bound to a work week have nearly unanimously requested that we begin the session at 6:30p and attempt to end by 10:00p. We will also have a light snack available for those coming directly from work. Normally there will be full tables (three of us stand by) and between 24 and 27 boards. Every effort will be made to end the session by 10:00p.

October 6, 2008 -
We have just purchased remote scoring keypads, BridgeMates, for the club. We tried both BridgePads and BridgeMates and decided to purchase these because they seemed more durable and user friendly. Come try them out and let us know what you think. So far, both systems have been well received with a very brief learning curve for the players.

Twenty-six teams competed in our 'Eight is Enough" Swiss Team event. Teams are stratified by the total number of points giving each A strata (1500+) player three points, B strata (300-1500) two points and C strata (up to 300 masterpoints) one point with any team's maximum allowable total as eight. The team of Tucky Goodman, Allen Silberman, Harvey Epstein and Kathy Schenk took the honors in the A strata (eight point teams). They pulled 75 victory points, the equivalent of a 94% game! WOW! Maryan Shaw, Marillyn Wakefield, Tom Gray and Gary Nestor headed the B Strata. Andree Schaeffer, Diane Wright, Cheryl Smith and Bill Silbernagel won the C Strata.

September 29, 2008 -
